“The Adventures of Miskit” – a new educational resource supporting children who have experienced trauma
21/08/2025
Primary school students from educational institutions in the municipality of Chisinau and the cities of Hîncești and Ștefan Vodă will learn how to manage their emotions and build resilience with the help of “The Adventures of Miskit” – a creative educational resource that supports children who have gone through difficult experiences through storytelling, play, and reflection. To ensure effective implementation of this resource, 15 teachers are participating today in a dedicated training session on how to deliver the program. The initiative aims to create a safe, empathetic, and inclusive educational environment, which is essential for children’s well-being and harmonious development.
According to Ana Palii, Project Manager at Partnerships for Every Child, “The Adventures of Miskit” provides teachers with simple and creative tools to help students recognize and manage their emotions, set goals, understand others’ perspectives, and build positive relationships. “In this way, children develop key competencies such as self-awareness and social awareness, as well as responsible decision-making skills, contributing to the development of a generation that is more emotionally balanced and better prepared for life,” Ms. Palii noted.
Maher Daboul, Educational Program Development Manager at NRC Moldova, stated “The journey of the brave stoat Miskit is not just a beautiful story, but an educational resource that promotes empathy and nurtures hope among children who have experienced hardship. This story offers teachers and caregivers a valuable tool to engage children in discussions about friendship, resilience, and mental health. In this way, we give children the opportunity to express their emotions and learn how to find inner balance in a safe and inclusive environment.”
This event is organized under the project “Ensuring Child Well-Being in Educational Institutions and Communities,” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by Partnerships for Every Child, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). The “Program for Better Learning” was launched in the Republic of Moldova in 2022 with the support of NRC, in response to the humanitarian crisis and the increased influx of refugee children.
