UN Guidelines for Alternative Care Explained in a Way Children Can Understand
16/07/2025
For the first time in the region, AO “Partnerships for Every Child” (P4EC) has adapted the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children into a version understandable for children.
The core message of this publication is that every child should grow up in a family. When this is not possible, the state is obliged to ensure the child’s protection through alternative care services that are as close as possible to a family environment.
The adaptation was carried out by a group of child protection and communication experts, as well as members of the Children’s Advisory Councils. The book was illustrated with children’s drawings, and the text was simplified to make it accessible to young readers.
The adaptation of the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children was made possible within the framework of the project “Ensuring Children’s Right to a Family and Protecting Them from Violence, Abuse, and Neglect”, implemented by P4EC between 2010–2014 with financial support from USAID.
