Around 400 Professional Foster Parents to Learn How to Support Children Who Have Experienced Trauma

16/11/2024

With the support of UNICEF, approximately 400 professional foster parents from across Moldova will participate in a two-day training program to learn how to respond to the care needs of children who have experienced trauma and adverse experiences. The first round of training for around 100 foster parents will take place on 16–17 December in Chisinau, with three additional rounds scheduled through February 2025.

These training sessions are part of a national program designed for all professional foster parents within the Professional Foster Care Service (APP). The program aims to develop competencies related to the therapeutic placement of children with complex emotional needs. Trainings will be led by national trainers previously instructed by international experts.

Daniela Mămăligă, Director of Partnerships for Every Child (P4EC), stated at the opening of the training: “After these sessions, professional foster parents will be able to recognize and address trauma, provide emotional and psychological support to children, build healthy and positive relationships based on trust and consistency, and collaborate with professionals to ensure the well-being and safety of children in care.”

The trainings are organized under the project “Every Girl and Boy is Protected and Empowered to Reach Their Full Potential,” funded by UNICEF and implemented by P4EC in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Territorial Social Assistance Agencies (ATAS) for the North-West, Center-West, and Center-East regions.
