“Blue Point” center established at Chisinau International Airport

16/01/2023

UNICEF, together with UNHCR Moldova and Partnerships for Every Child, has established a “Blue Point” center at Chisinau International Airport. At this center, a child protection specialist works alongside the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova and local authorities to identify and protect unaccompanied refugee children from Ukraine or children at heightened risk.

Since the beginning of the war, 47,000 people, including 23,000 children, have received essential services through the 11 “Blue Point” centers set up across Moldova.

The “Blue Points” are support centers organized by UNICEF, UNHCR, central public authorities, and development partners/NGOs. They are located at border crossing points in neighboring countries of Ukraine, where refugees can access psychological counseling, information, and other essential services. Teams of specialists and volunteers identify and register unaccompanied children and women in need of support, providing protection services, including prevention of violence.

Additionally, the centers provide safe and child-friendly spaces, where children can rest, play, and receive the support they need to cope with the trauma of war.

Partnerships for Every Child operates at “Blue Points” in Palanca, Ștefan Vodă, Leușeni, Hîncești, Sculeni, Ungheni, and at Chisinau International Airport.
