A safe space for Margo and her mother, Tamara

18/04/2022

For little Margo, only seven months old, PEACE is found at her mother’s breast — where she feels safe, warm, and protected. For her mother, Tamara, PEACE is a place where the sun shines — both in the sky and in people’s hearts.

At the “Blue Dot” First Assistance Centre in Palanca, Ștefan Vodă, Tamara stepped into a specially arranged space for mothers and children to breastfeed her baby and catch her breath before continuing the long journey to Italy, where relatives and shelter await her daughters.

UNICEF Moldova and Partnerships for Every Child have established four such dedicated spaces for mothers and children within the “Blue Dot” Centres in Palanca, Leușeni, and Sculeni. Here, mothers benefit from specially arranged areas for breastfeeding and childcare, as well as hygiene products and food supplies for children.

In the coming period, similar spaces will be set up in additional refugee accommodation centres across the country.
