Professional Foster Carers receive two-day training in Chișinău
26/03/2013
On March 19–20, 14 professional foster carers along with child protection specialists responsible for service development from the districts of Telenești, Anenii Noi, Șoldănești, and Nisporeni participated in a two-day training organized by Partnerships for Every Child (P4EC) in Chisinau.
The objective of the training was to develop and strengthen the professional competencies of foster parents in working with the 20 children currently in their care.
The seminar covered key topics such as:
- Communication with children in foster care
- Stages of child adaptation in the professional foster family
- Relationships between foster parent – child – biological family
- Reintegration of children into their biological or extended family
All topics were approached in an interactive, practical manner, allowing participants to share their opinions, discuss challenges they face in caring for foster children, and exchange experiences with colleagues. The format also provided opportunities for socialization, which is crucial for professional foster parents.
This event is part of a series of training activities designed to cover all districts with children placed in professional foster care, ensuring that the knowledge and practices acquired are disseminated locally to potential future foster parents.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the quality of professional foster care services in Moldova and to expand this service nationwide, so that children at risk can benefit from family-based care.
The event was made possible with the support of the World Childhood Foundation (Sweden), which has been funding the development of professional foster care services throughout Moldova since 2010, under the project “Supporting Local Authorities in Moldova in Providing Alternative Family Care for Children Deprived of Parental Care.”
