Ensuring children’s well-being in schools in Moldova/GFFO

Project Goal
The project aims to facilitate the recovery of children affected by traumatic experiences resulting from conflict or displacement and to mitigate their impact on both refugee children and host communities by improving learning conditions.
Through the implementation of the Better Learning Programme (BLP), the project promotes the social and emotional well-being of both children and teachers, contributing to the creation of a safe and inclusive learning environment. The programme equips teachers with the skills to recognize signs of stress and emotional distress among children and provides them with practical psychosocial support tools that foster emotional recovery and stress management. In addition, the programme strengthens the capacity of teachers and parents to manage their own stress and to better support children’s recovery.
As part of the project, Partnerships for Every Child will expand the implementation of the Better Learning Programme to three to four additional schools in the Municipality of Chișinău, contributing to the well-being of refugee children and creating more supportive learning environments for all students.
Project Objectives
- Expand the implementation of the Better Learning Programme (BLP) to three to four educational institutions in the Municipality of Chișinău, selected in cooperation with the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport based on the number of enrolled refugee children.
- Strengthen the capacities of 60 teachers to implement the Better Learning Programme and integrate psychosocial support into their educational practice.
- Deliver Better Learning Programme activities to approximately 900 students, enhancing their resilience, stress management skills, and emotional well-being.
- Distribute 800 school stationery kits to Ukrainian refugee children and their Moldovan peers in vulnerable situations, supporting their access to education while alleviating the financial burden on their families.
- Promote social cohesion and reduce tensions between refugee and host communities by providing equitable support and inclusive activities for both groups.
Project Beneficiaries
The project will directly benefit a total of 960 individuals, including:
- 60 teachers from three to four newly selected schools in the Municipality of Chișinău, who will receive training in the Better Learning Programme.
- 900 students, including refugee children and children from host communities, who will participate in Better Learning Programme activities delivered in schools.
- 800 students—Ukrainian refugee children and their Moldovan peers in vulnerable situations—who will receive school stationery kits tailored to their educational level (including backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, drawing albums, watercolours or felt-tip pens, markers, coloured paper, scissors, and other essential school supplies) to support their participation in education.
Activities
- Expand the Better Learning Programme to three to four new schools in the Municipality of Chișinău.
- Train 60 teachers to implement the Better Learning Programme.
- Deliver Better Learning Programme sessions to approximately 900 students.
- Provide psychosocial support through classroom-based activities that promote emotional recovery, resilience, and stress management.
- Distribute 800 school stationery kits to refugee children and vulnerable children from host communities.
- Foster inclusive learning environments and strengthen social cohesion between refugee and host community students.
The project is implemented by Partnerships for Every Child, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research and the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport of the Municipality of Chișinău, with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office, as part of a partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
